Meeting with Public in Akhaltsikhe

On December 8, 2010 UN Association of Georgia in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Georgia launched a discussion meeting in Akhaltsikhe State University. The main objective of the meeting was to increase awareness of citizens of Akhaltsikhe in the field of Criminal Justice System Reform and to provide active participation of population in ongoing reforms.</p> <p>The representatives of the Ministry of Justice,ChiefProsecutor’s Office and Legal Assistance Departmentmet the population of Akhaltsikhe, delivered first hand information and answered questions related to Criminal Justice Systemreforms and its principal directions, Juvenile Justice, legal aid, Jury Trial, Criminal Law Procedures and etc.</p> <p>The representatives of the joint project of UN Association of Georgia and Ministry of Justice "Criminal Justice System Reform in Georgia” conducted a presentation for the audience included around 150 students. During the presentation, the presenters talked about general policy of criminal justice reforms, penalty enforcement, electronic cards, etc. and informedthe audienceabout the progress and importanceof current reforms.</p> <p>Mr. David Sakvarelidze, a First Deputy Chief Prosecutor and George Vashakidze, a Deputy of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and a Chairman of the Civil Registry Agency were actively involved in the discussion process, answered questions anddiscussed the positions and opinions of local population. They introduced the audience the main concept and mission of Justice Houses.</p> <p>After the discussion meeting, the organizers of the meeting opened an information board at Akhaltsikhe State University where new publications such as leaflets or newsletters about justice system reforms must be placed.
