December 7-10, ANI partnered with the "Confidence Building in South Caucasus” project of the United Nations Association of Sweden, implemented by UNAG to organize "Human Rights Week” in Tbilisi to conclude International Campaign of 16 Days of Activism.

33 members of ANI’s Youth Centers from 10 municipalities of Georgia (cities of Zugdidi, Ozurgeti, Kutaisi, Batumi, Telavi, Gori, Gardabani, Marneuli, Akhaltsikhe and Akhalkalaki) were brought together to mark Human Rights Day and make their voice heard to promote full enjoyment of all human rights by everyone regardless of gender, ability, ethnicity, social status, religious beliefs or political belonging.

Participants of Human Rights Week were selected through the photo competition dedicated to five major issues of human rights: children’s rights, gender equality, rights of religious and ethnic minorities, education as a right and rights to social equality and security.

Overall, 63 young people participated in the competition and submitted 118 photos, out of which 18 photos were selected for the exhibition of Human Rights Week.

Throughout the Week, several activities took place, including full day seminar on gender equality, freedom of expression and speech, the right to practice and observe all aspects of own religion, the rights to go to school and own possessions. Further, an invited guest speaker, Head of Tolerance Center under the Auspices of Public Defender’s Office of Georgia, Mr. Beka Mindiashvili delivered a presentation and organized a debate session with young people on the importance of tolerance for building democratic society. The Week also integrated a movie show, debate and other educational and entertaining activities.

Human Rights Week was culminated with a photo exhibition and award ceremony of the winners. All the participants of the Week were given certificates and publications donated by UNICEF. Finally, winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were awarded with special prizes and Amazon "Kindle.”

ANI runs 12 youth centers countrywide that connect youth together, promote activism and foster the sense of civic unity and appreciation of diversity among the young generations of Georgia.
