UNAG launches Kutaisi Legal Clinic presentation

<p>On February 29, 2008 UNAG’s Kutaisi branch office and ABA Rule of Law Initiative launched public presentation of Kutaisi Legal Clinic and Graduation Ceremony of clinic students in the Kutaisi State University.</p> <p>The initiative Kutaisi Legal Clinic is implemented from the September 2007, by UNAG, in partnership with Kutaisi State University’s Faculty of Social Sciences, and ABA Rule of Law Initiative Georgia office.</p> <p>The initiative intends to support the newly established legal clinic at the UNAG Kutaisi Office, which is closely linked to Kutaisi State University’s Social Science (Law) Faculty. In the clinic, the students are involved in providing legal aid to the residents of Kutaisi in civil and administrative law. While working on these and other issues, the clinic students: learn local laws and regulations; conduct legislative research and analysis; identify and articulate legal issues; learn legal writing; communicate effectively with clients, other attorneys, judges; recognize and resolve ethical issues; develop skills of behaving professionally, and conduct negotiations and mediation. The clinic’s primary objective is to provide law students from Kutaisi State University with practical legal skills training and to produce highly skilled and ethical practicing attorneys as well as to provide pro bono legal services to the residents of Kutaisi, so that they are able to enter in lawful relationships with other subjects of law, including city halls and municipalities.</p>
