Exchange visit of The United Nations Association of Georgia in Sweden

On March 22-29, 2009 representatives of The United Nations Association of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan (Initiative Group) visited UNA Sweden. The exchange visit aimed at sharing experience, supporting implementation of Confidence Building in South Caucasus Program and introduction of the advanced methods of work.</p> <p>During a week, the representatives of The United Nations Association of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan participated in various activities in order to share working experience of UNA Sweden, attended presentations on advocacy work and fundraising made by respected fundraising consultant is Sweden – Per Stenbeck. Within the frameworks of the exchange visit, the participants of The United Nations Associations of South Caucasus had a meeting with the executive committee of the UNA Sweden Board at the Swedish Parliament. At the meeting Swedish parliament officials, local governmental agencies, civil society organizations and the representatives of The United Nations Associations of South Caucasus made a discussion about security, political, social, economic issues in South Caucasus region, evaluated existing problems and discussed the ways for them solving.</p> <p>The visiting to the local chapter in Lulea had particular importance for the participants of the exchange visit. The representatives of The United Nations Association of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia got information about the involvement of voluntaries in the activities carried out by the local chapter of UNA Sweden. For illustration the working experience of the local chapter, the participants visited Lulea Gymnasium where the headmasters gave a short presentation about the collaboration and joint activities with the local UNA Sweden chapter.</p> <p>In frames of the exchange visit the participants talked about Millennium Development Goals and expressed their opinion on the ways of achieving MDGs in a regional perspective.</p> <p>For sharing working experience, UNA Sweden made presentations on its implemented projects, planned activities and relations with governmental bodies and local chapters. The representatives of UNAG made awareness raising presentation on Georgia, its history, culture, natural resources, religion, political and economic situation of the country, working experience of UNAG and its completed and undertaken projects.</p> <p>The participants of The United Nations Association of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on cooperation in confidence building related issues and providing civil society organizations involvement in these processes. The participants of The UNAs of South Caucasus made a plan for future cooperation.</p> <p>The received knowledge and shared experience would help The United Nations Associations of South Caucasus to provide organizational development and make a valued contribution in confidence building process in South Caucasus region.</p> <p>The exchange visit in Sweden was organized in frames of Confidence Building in South Caucasus Program, implemented by UNAG in cooperation with UNA Sweden with financial assistance of Forum Syd/Sida. The overall objective of the project was to build confidence environment in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Within the project, the planned activities such as conferences, capacity building trainings, exchange visits focused on ensuring efficient implementation of the confidence building program.
