Ana (Ola) Sologhashvili - Women`s History Month

In this rubric about Women's Month, we will introduce you to the women from the exhibition which was created within the framework of the USAID Unity Through Diversity Program and was dedicated to the important role of ethnic and religious minorities in the economic, social, and political processes of Georgia.

Ana (Ola) Sologhashvili was a politician and teacher. She was born in Mejvriskhevi village in Gori. She studied history and philology at the University of Kharkiv. In 1903 she joined the social-democratic party. After finishing her university studies, Ana worked as a teacher. In the 1900s, she pursued party work with her sister. In 1917 she was elected as a member of the National Councils of Georgia. She founded a women’s organization in Gori during the same period. In November 1918, she became one of the leaders of the central electoral commission. In 1919 she was elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly of Georgia from the social-democratic party list. In 1921, after the Soviet occupation, she remained in Georgia and joined the resistance movement. Ana was also one of the leaders of the political red cross. During the second half 1920s, she continued working as a teacher in Tskhinvali. On November 28th, 1937, she was sentenced to death and shot by the decision of “Troika”. There is a street in Tbilisi named after Ana Sologhashvili.
